Traditional Land Owners
Atmos acknowledges that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have occupied and cared for the land on which we develop and operate our projects for more than 65,000 years. We respect their deep connections to land and waters and the traditional knowledge and experience they have caring for Country.

Atmos aims to consult early to establish a foundation of trust and mutual understanding with the First Nations communities they interact with. Building trust is essential before seeking knowledge and information from these communities. This approach acknowledges the historical and cultural context in which these communities operate and emphasises the importance of establishing meaningful connections that go beyond project-specific objectives.

Engaging in the practice of building relationships prior to seeking knowledge and information demonstrates a commitment to cultural sensitivity, inclusivity, and respect for the unique values and perspectives of First Nation peoples. It allows for a more equitable and empowering engagement process, where First Nation peoples are active participants in sharing their knowledge, concerns, and aspirations, rather than merely being passive recipients of information.

Our vision for reconciliation is for a more sustainable and equitable future where our renewable energy projects not only deliver clean energy, but build stronger and more resilient communities for generations to come. We recognise that the transition to renewable energy presents an opportunity to collaborate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and establish partnerships that empower First Peoples to participate in the social, economic and environmental benefits of projects.

Atmos has been actively building cultural competency within the business and is proactively seeking opportunities to work with and support with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples connected to our projects. In November 2024 we launched our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan and are looking forward to implementing  the plan during 2025.
